Term one & two (SEMESTER ONE) 2026
Welcome to Basketball at KingsWay School. We offer two different basketball leagues for those in Years 7-10.
Our teams can enter a local social competition run at the Leisure Centre, run by Harbour Basketball OR in the Junior Basketball League (JBL) run by Coast Basketball. Both are local competitions and have categories for beginners and those who have been playing for longer.
Please note all players MUST wear a mouthguard or are not allowed to take the court.
Year 7 & 8 Leisure Centre Semester 2
Dates: Starting Monday, 3 August 2026 – for 13 weeks (includes 4 weeks of grading* and 2 weeks of play-offs/final. No play school holidays.
- No Games on Monday 7 September (Aims Games), 28 September – 9 October (School Holidays) and Monday 26 Nov (Labour Day)
- Intermediate Boys Leagues: Monday 3:30 pm – 9:00 pm
- Registrations Close – Thursday 2 July

Teams will remain the same as in Semester 1. Any new players will be placed into teams where there are available spaces.
- Please note that there will be no trials for Semester 2 teams.
JBL Competition Year 7 – 9
This competition is run at local college gyms in and around the Coast. Competition is term 2 only.
Yr 7/8 Boys A Grade x 2 teams (Mondays) Round 1 – 5.15pm, Round 2 – 6pm, Round 3 – 6.45pm
Yr 7/8 Boys B Grade x 2 teams (Mondays) Round 1 – 5.15pm, Round 2 – 6pm, Round 3 – 6.45pm
Dates: Year 7 & 8’s play Monday 20th April – Monday 29th June
NO PLAY on Mon 27th April, ANZAC day, 1st June – Kings birthday
Yr 7/8 Development Grade up to 4 teams (Fridays) TBC depending on numbers.
Yr 9 Boys A Grade (Wednesdays) Round 1 – 5.15pm, Round 2 – 6pm,
Yr 9 Boys B Grade (Wednesdays) Round 1 – 5.15pm, Round 2 – 6pm
Date: Year 9 play Wednesdays 22nd April – Wednesday 1st July (TBC)
Year 7 – 9 Girls Grade (Mondays)
All Auckland Council facilities running children’s basketball/miniball are moving to align with Basketball New Zealand rulings regarding the use of mouth guards being worn by all players under 19 years old. You can purchase from The Warehouse, Pharmacies or Sports Shops. Mouth guards need to be moulded before the first use, so please do this at least a day before your child’s first game.
Fees and Registrations
Important Notice:
- Basketball North Harbour player fee is now included in the KingsWay School (KWS) basketball fee.
- If your child did not play in Semester 1, an additional annual Basketball New Zealand levy fee of $5 is required.

BOTH HAVE TO BE FILLED IN BEFORE REGISTRATION IS COMPLETE
KingsWay School has a user pays policy for all sports. This means ALL fees must be paid prior to commencement of competition or play, unless an AP has been arranged with the sports department. Please email sport@kingsway.school.nz if you would like to set up such a payment.
The basketball charge includes:
- North Harbour Basketball Charge, North Harbour Basketball Membership fee,
- Kingsway charges: NH BB Team Fee, administration fee, equipment, uniform, Coach discount, sporty registration & Teacher in Charge of Sport costs.
If you do not register your child by the date the registration closes there may be a $10 late fee applied and we cannot guarantee your child a place in a team.
