Basketball Year 7 & 8

Welcome to Basketball at KingsWay School. We offer two different basketball leagues for those in Years 7-10.
Our teams can enter a local social competition run by the Leisure Centre OR in the Junior Basketball League (JBL) run by Coast Basketball. Both are local competitions and have categories for beginners and those who have been playing for longer.

Please note all players MUST wear a mouthguard or are not allowed to take the court.

Year 7 & 8 Leisure Centre Basketball

This is organised into two Semesters.  Semester One – Term 1 & 2 and Semester Two – Term 3 & 4. Games are played on Monday afternoon/nights.  Teams need an adult manager and will be assigned a senior student coach that will train them during lunch time unless a parent/adult coach volunteers.   Teams can be mixed boys and girls.  This competition is less competitive and more about court time and practice.

• Games dates Semester 1: Monday 24 February to Monday 23 June ( 17 weeks)

Coast Junior Basketball League (JBL)

Coast Basketball runs School competitions for all secondary schools within the Hibiscus Coast Sport area of responsibility. The JBL offers players and teams opportunities to develop by offering greater court time and playing in local schools.  We need coaches and managers for these teams so please indicate on the registration form if you can help in this way.

This league consists of 10 teams with 4 Divisions from the following schools on the Coast:  KingsWay School, Orewa College, Whangaparaoa College, Wentworth College and Mahurangi College.

Year 7 & 8 JBL

• Start and end dates: Term 2 Only – Monday 28 April 2025 to Saturday 28 June 2025
• The season will run for 9 weeks – April 28, May 5 , 12, 26, June 3, 9,
• Grades:  Boys A Grade, Boys B Grade, Development Grade, Girls Grade
• No. of teams:  10 teams per grade, Round Robin, Semi final and final
• Days, Times & Locations: Mondays – 5:15pm | 6pm | 6:45pm | 7:30pm at Whangaparaoa College, Orewa College, Kingsway College or Wentworth College
• Game format: 15 minute halves, last 2 minutes of 2nd half is stop clock, 1 x TO per half per team
• Registrations close: Friday 14th February 2025
• Trials: TBC during lunchtimes in Week 4 and Week 5 of Term 1

All Auckland Council facilities running children’s basketball/miniball are moving to align with Basketball New Zealand rulings regarding the use of mouth guards being worn by all players under 19 years old. You can purchase from The Warehouse, Pharmacies or Sports Shops. Mouth guards need to moulded before the first use, so please do this at least a day before your child’s first game.
