Primary School Basketball
At KingsWay, Primary Basketball is played at the Stanmore Bay Leisure Centre. This is run by North harbour Basketball and is run n semesters, which combines two terms into one season (e.g. Terms 1 & 2). By signing up, students must commit to both terms, ensuring teams remain consistent. Please check that winter sports schedules do not conflict with basketball games, as full commitment to both terms is required. THERE IS A NEW SIGN UP POLICY SO IT IS IMPORTANT YOU READ ALL REGISTRATION INFORMATION BELOW
All Auckland Council facilities hosting children’s basketball/miniball now require players under 19 to wear mouthguards, per Basketball NZ rules. Mouthguards are available at The Warehouse, pharmacies, or sports shops and must be molded before first use. Please prepare them at least a day before your child’s first game.

Leisure Centre playing days for Semester 1 (Term 1&2)
- Year 1 & Year 2 Miniball – Wednesday: 3:30 pm – 7:00 pm Wednesday 25th March- 13 WEEKS
- Year 3 & Year 4 Miniball – Thursday: 3:30 pm – 7:45 pm Thursday 26th March – 13 WEEKS
- Year 5 & Year 6 Basketball – Tuesday 3:30 pm – 7:45 pm Tuesday 24 March 2026 13 WEEKS
- No play dates: TBC
Year 5 & 6 Basketball Trial Dates:
• Monday, 9 February: 3:30 – 5:00pm Trial 1 – all Year 5 and 6 students
• Wednesday, 11 February: 3:30 – 5:00pm Trial 2 – invited students
• Thursday, 12 February: 3:30 – 5:00pm Trial 3– invited students
Please note that students must attend at least two trial sessions. After the first trial, they will be advised which additional session they are required to attend.
Year 5 & 6 Basketball Development Programme
KWS is pleased to offer a Year 5 & 6 Basketball Development Programme, delivered by Coast Basketball.
These development-focused sessions are designed to support skill progression and game understanding and are separate from regular team training sessions.
Programme details:
- Provider: Coast Basketball
When: Thursdays, 3:15pm – 4:30pm
Where: Primary Hall
Dates: Thursday 12 February – Thursday 26 March (8 weeks).
Cost: $30 per player – Term 1
Capacity: Maximum of 22 players
Priority placement will be given to players selected in top teams based on KWS trials. CLICK HERE to sign up for expression of interest. Once teams have been trialled players will be notified as to whether they have a place. Payment must be made within 5 days or your place will be given to another player.
Fees and Registrations for Primary Basketball
Leisure Centre Registrations Close: Friday 5th February 2026
- Year 1 & 2 – $75 plus game day cost on top (see below)
- Years 3 & 4 – $75 plus game day cost on top (see below)
- Years 5 & 6 – $75 plus game day cost on top (see below)
Important Notice: Basketball Programme Changes at the Leisure CentrePlease note that, since Harbour Basketball (Harbour BB) has taken over operations, there have been changes to how basketball is administered at the Leisure Centre.

A full Basketball North harbour player payment of $110, plus a $5 Basketball New Zealand (BBNZ) levy, must be completed through GameDay at the time of individual player registration.

This payment is in addition to the team fee and KWS Basketball costs.

An automatic payment plan may be set up to pay the KWS team fee; however, the full GameDay payment must be made in full at the time of registration.
Please be aware that once you have registered with KWS, your child will be entered into a team and then you will be sent a registration link to register your child on the BB North harbour website called GameDay. This is when the further North harbour Basketball payment will be due . If either registration is incomplete, the player will not be considered registered and will not be able to play in a team.

KingsWay School has a user pays policy for all sports. This means ALL fees must be paid prior to commencement of competition or play, unless an AP has been arranged with the sports department. Please email sport@kingsway.school.nz if you would like to set up such a payment.
The basketball charge includes:
- North Harbour Basketball Charge, North Harbour Basketball Membership fee,
- Kingsway charges: NH BB Team Fee, administration fee, equipment, uniform, Coach discount, sporty registration & Teacher in Charge of Sport costs.
If you do not register your child by the date the registration closes there may be a $10 late fee applied and we cannot guarantee your child a place in a team.
