Season Information:
All games are played at the Leisure Centre in Stanmore Bay throughout the year. We offer a training only program for our Year 1 and new to basketball Year 2 players.
Leisure Centre playing days for Term 3:
- Y1 & Y2 Miniball – Wednesday 27th July – 28th September – 2022.
- Y3 & Y4 Miniball – Thursday 28th July – 29th September 2022.
- Y5 & Y6 Basketball – Tuesday 26th July – 27th September 2022.

2022 Information:
Welcome to Basketball at KingsWay School. We offer three different basketball leagues for those in Years 7-8.
Please be aware that depending on numbers this year, we may have to join teams and choose a league that suits all players. If this happens we will email parents with details.
Year 7 & 8 Leisure Centre Basketball Term 3

Information for entering the Leisure Centre Under RED
- All people over the age of 12 years 3 months need a vaccine passport to enter our facility and must wear a mask when entering the facility however these may be removed for players only during their games, they are required put them back on to leave.
- Please scan our QR codes.
- We ask that each player only have one spectator and suggest that parents with other children avoid coming in. I understand this is tricky so its up to the parent/caregiver but our recommendation is to limit how many people come into the stadium
- Parents are asked to stay 1m apart from each other and wear a mask at all times.
- Entry and exit will be through the fire doors in stadium 1.
- Teams MUST NOT enter until the other teams that have just played have left the stadium so can people please stand back from the doors so there is room for the previous teams to leave.
- All managers must keep a record of who played each game and that needs be made available if contact tracing is needed.
Coast Junior Basketball League (JBL)
Year 7 & 8 Boys:
This league consists of up to 12 teams with 2 Divisions from the following schools on the Coast:
KingsWay School, Orewa College, Whangaparaoa College and Wentworth College.
Games are scheduled for 5:00pm, 5:45pm or 6:30 pm on Monday evenings for 45minute time slots including 2 x 15minute halves and stop clock in the last 2 mins of the second half.
A thirteen-week round robin league played will be played at our school or at one of the other schools participating.
All boys teams will play 5 v 5 and would ideally need 7-8 players per team.
Starts 9th May 2022 – 22nd August 2022
Year 7 & 8 Girls:
This year we hope to get enough for a girls for the girls only league consisting of 4 teams from the Coast area. Girls teams will play 4 v 4 and would ideally need 5-6 players per team. Games are scheduled for 5:30pm or 6:15pm on Monday Evenings for a 30 minute time slot including 2 x 12minute halves and stop clock in the last 2 minutes of the second half.
A nine-week round robin league with home and away scheduled games at their schools – so all the teams will play each other to enhance school competition and player development.
Registrations closes: Tuesday, 22nd March 2022
Year 7 & 8 North Harbour Teams:
Year 7 & 8 teams will have the option to play in the Harbour Basketball Competition on Monday nights between 4pm – 6pm (approx). Teams will be chosen through trials. Semester 1 competition commences Monday 28th February 2022.

Year 9 – 13 North Harbour
Year 9 – 13 teams will have the option to play in the Harbour Basketball Secondary Schools Competition. Teams will be chosen through trials.
Note from NHBB regarding Covid: The venues we use for our leagues will all be implementing the requirement for vaccine passes to be used. This will apply to anyone that enters the stadium including spectators that are over the age of 12 years 3months. Harbour Basketball Covid-19 Policy Dec 2021

1st Senior Team info:
Senior 1st teams are expected to wear the school tracksuit or the school jacket /school tracksuit pants to and from games throughout the season and for tournament week in September. All senior 1st teams play top team on the day. There is no equal playing time if playing in the senior top team.
Senior 1st team players are expected to attend the tournament which commences first week of September.
The cost per student is expected to be in the region of $400.00 – $550.00.
Please note, it is a privilege, not a right to attend tournament and Senior 1 teams/players will be evaluated throughout the season. The school has the right to withdraw any team or players up to and including tournament week.
A $100.00 deposit is required per student. The deposit is to be paid on the school website under ‘tournament’ by the beginning of May.

Pay $50 when registering and the remainder two weeks before the first game or as requested by the sports department.
Option 2:
AP – Set up an automatic payment & pay weekly, fortnightly or monthly as long as the first payment is made a week before the first game and payments are finished by the end of term 2. You will need to enter the details of your AP during the registration process, so before registering please make sure you know the following details:
- the date your AP starts. (Must be when you are registering)
- the date your AP ends
- the frequency of payment
- & the amount being paid
Please bear in mind there is a $50.00 deposit when registering for all AP’s, and deduct this amount from the full fees of your AP. Please make sure your AP payments are made into the sport bank account 12-3084-0192348-52.
How to earn $50 off your child’s fees:
Any parent who can offer to coach a team and run training sessions for a season (two terms) will be offered a $50 reduction off one of their child’s basketball fees. If there is more than one coach the $50 will be halved or one coach selected by the TIC/Sports Department on the experience/suitability/philosophy of the coach. All coaches and Managers are required to be Police vetted.
User Pays Policy for All Sports:
Kingsway School has a user pays policy for all sports. This means ALL fees must be paid prior to commencement of competition or play, unless an AP has been arranged with the sports department. Please e-mail sport@kingsway.school.nz if you would like to set up such a payment.
The basketball charge includes:
- Leisure Centre Fees
- Kingsway charges: administration fee, uniform, equipment & Teacher in Charge of Sport costs.
Uniform:
The sports uniform is issued to players for the season, if it is lost or damaged the player is responsible for paying full replacement costs for the uniform. Please see uniform care by following the Uniform Information link.

Students will not be permitted to be placed in a team unless they have registered and paid or paid their deposit & started making AP payments first.
If a student doesn’t make a side due to lack of numbers to make a complete team, their fees will be reimbursed, however, fees will not be reimbursed to students who don’t make their choice of team in their chosen code or who no longer want to play and who then choose to withdraw. Once the teams are made up, if a child pulls out it can leave a team short, cause players to be swapped about in teams and a lot of work administratively both at school and at association level.
Covid 19 refunds – If games are cancelled due to Covid 19 we will refund any money we receive back from the sporting organisations and any costs not already paid out at the KingsWay administrative end.

This is the same online shop used for Tuckshop orders, uniform purchases and other school payments that come up through the year. Once you have registered your children, the system will remember your details for further purchases. Please make sure you update your child’s class each year.

Senior 1 Players
We expect all Senior 1 players to attend the tournament week in the first week of September. The cost per student is likely be between $400 – $450. However tournament is a privilege and not a right. All senior 1 teams and players will be evaluated throughout the season and the school has the right to withdraw a team or players.
You will be requested to register & pay the $100 deposit on the school web site under ‘tournament’ by the end of May please.
