Water Polo

Season Information:

Year 7 & 8
The local intermediate school league for Y7 & 8 is run by the Hibiscus Coast Waterpolo Club on Sunday’s during school terms 2 & 3 at The Leisure Centre, Brightside Road, Stanmore Bay. The league usually starts the second Sunday of the term and runs through until the end of the term.

Times and game format

• Played Sunday evenings between 4pm-8:30pm at the Leisure Centre
• Term 2 starts Sunday 30 April and finishes Sunday 25 June. This term is 8 weeks long.
• 6 students in the water, 5 swimmers and a goalie.
• Games are 20 minutes long (10 minutes each way)
• Mixed boys and girls teams.

Waterpolo is a physically demanding, competitive, contact sport. It is played in the deep end of the Leisure Centre pool where students cannot touch the ground, nor are they allowed to hang onto the side of the pool during the game. To ensure our students safety, it is important that they are capable swimmers. We suggest that students should be able to swim at least 100 metres non-stop before registering for waterpolo at Kingsway. If your child is not a competent swimmer but is interested in waterpolo, there are other options within the Hibiscus Coast Club specifically for beginners and many local options for swimming training.

Year 9- Year 13

Our Senior boys and girls enter a composite team with Whangaparaoa College and enter Senior teams in the College Sport competition in term 1.

Our Year 9 & 10 players play in a composite mixed team through term 2,3 & 4 through North Harbour Water Polo. To play in these teams you need to be an experienced player. If you are interested in finding out more please contact Lynda Hay in the Sports Dept.

Registration

Sport registrations and payments can now be done online using our secure online trading system. This is the same online shop used for Tuckshop orders, uniform purchases and other school payments that come up through the year. Once you have registered your children, the system will remember your details for further purchases. If you have children in both the Primary and Middle/Senior Schools, all details for your children will appear on the same account in the future.

REFUNDS
Students will not be permitted to be placed in a team unless they have registered and paid or paid their deposit & started making AP payments first.
If a student doesn’t make a side due to lack of numbers to make a complete team, their fees will be reimbursed, however, fees will not be reimbursed to students who don’t make their choice of team in their chosen code or who no longer want to play and who then choose to withdraw.  Once the teams are made up, if a child pulls out it can leave a team short, cause players to be swapped about in teams and a lot of work administratively both at school and at association level.
Covid 19 refunds – If games are cancelled due to Covid 19 we will refund any money we receive back from the sporting organisations and any costs not already paid out at the KingsWay end.
