Congratulations to Zac Claydon, Year 10, who went to the NZ Judo Nationals in Wellington this weekend to compete with his club Ochiba. He competed in two divisions, on Saturday it was Cadets under 73kg, under 18 years and he came away with the Silver medal.
On Sunday he was in under 66kg, senior boys national division. Zac won his round robin games, then his semi finals before he could compete for the Gold. The finals match went into Golden Score which lasted nine and a half minutes where he won. It was a hard fought final and he was ecstatic to come away with the gold medal.
Remember to get to this level, the pathway requires you to succeed in prior competitions and Judo Nationals started at the Waikato Bays tournament where he won Bronze in Cadets and got Gold in the senior boys. That took him to the Auckland International Open where he got Gold in the senior boys division before heading off to Nationals. A great effort Zac!
