Hauora and Pastoral Care
At KingsWay we are committed to promoting the hauora (wellbeing) of our students and recognise that a student’s wellbeing directly affects their ability to learn.
To support their wellbeing and create a safe and supportive environment each student has a LifeLab/homeroom teacher as their main pastoral caregiver. This teacher is the first point of contact for pastoral care and wellbeing concerns for both students and parents. This includes notifications of bullying.
Orah – Monitoring Student Wellbeing
KingsWay School uses a tool called Orah to improve communication around student wellbeing between students, teachers, and our pastoral care and counselling teams.

To further support student hauora our Pastoral Care and Wellbeing Team is available.
Our Pastoral and Wellbeing Team
Counsellors
The KingsWay counselling team is available to provide emotional, social, and psychological support to primary, middle and senior school students. Our counsellors listen, encourage, and assist students in helping to connect faith to everyday life and celebrate their God-given strengths. Counsellors serve our student community, specialising in brief therapy, and all student engagement is voluntary and confidential.
Referrals to the counselling team can be made by students, parents or staff.
Should you wish to make a referral, please email Annie Brown (Head of Counselling) with the following information:
- Name of Student.
- Confirmation that you have discussed the referral with your child and have their agreement.
- The nature of the issue.
Health Centre Staff
Registered nurses operate the Health Centre at Senior and Junior Campus. To learn more about our Health Centre provision CLICK HERE.
Deans (MY & SY) and HOLA (PY)
Deans act as an additional layer of pastoral and wellbeing support for students in Middle and Senior Years. At Primary Years, the HOLA act in a similar capacity. These staff have responsibility for managing student issues that escalate beyond those normally resolved by teachers.
Senior and Executive Leadership (SMT/ELT)
SMT and ELT act as an upper layer of pastoral and wellbeing support for students. Senior and Executive Leadership have responsibility for managing the most serious breaches of KingsWay School behaviour expectations and wellbeing concerns.
