Primary School Learning Programme
Our Curriculum
Our Curriculum Document clearly states what we deem important in education at KingsWay School. The aim of the curriculum is to provide quality educational programmes built on the developmental needs of the students. It encourages students to be confident, active problem solvers who are engaged in the learning process. It encourages students to be connected to God and others.
Special Character
Our Special Character permeates all that we do. Students participate in daily morning devotional and weekly worship sessions. A key emphasis of this resource is to establish students in the Word of God so that they can begin to find answers for themselves. It presents students with the kinds of material that will help them go beyond factual knowledge of the Scriptures to growing in wisdom and understanding. A strong emphasis is placed on character development with the goal of allowing the Holy Spirit to work in the lives of the students conforming them to the image of Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29).
In Years 1–2, students build strong foundations for learning within a nurturing, Christ-centred environment. Our programmes follow the refreshed English and Mathematics curriculum, with a clear and carefully sequenced approach to early literacy and numeracy. Students develop essential knowledge, skills, and practices that help them make sense of language, number, and God’s world.
Learning is intentional and responsive to the needs of young learners. Students engage in hands-on and exploratory activities that deepen understanding, build confidence, and foster curiosity and independence. These experiences are thoughtfully designed to reinforce key concepts and support meaningful application.
Students also benefit from specialist teaching. They participate in a weekly Perceptual Motor Programme (PMP) to support physical development and coordination; Science and Technology lessons; Spanish lessons(beginning in Year 2); and Physical Education sessions led by our specialist PE teacher.
Across all learning areas—science, the arts, social sciences, health and physical education, technology, and languages—students are encouraged to grow in both knowledge and Christian character.
These early years establish strong learning routines, nurture a love of learning, and lay the foundation for the values of kindness, respect, and responsibility that shape our school community.
In Years 3–4, students deepen the core knowledge and skills built in their early Primary years within a supportive, Christ-centred environment. Our programmes follow the refreshed English and Mathematics curriculum, with increasing expectations for students to apply their learning confidently and independently.
Learning across the curriculum provides opportunities for students to investigate, collaborate, create, and problem-solve as they engage more thoughtfully with God’s world. Students make connections between ideas, ask purposeful questions, and explore concepts at greater depth.
Students continue to benefit from specialist teaching. They participate in Science and Technology lessons, further developing inquiry skills and understanding of how the world works; Spanish, building their language knowledge and cultural awareness; and weekly Physical Education led by our specialist PE teacher. They also take part in weekly Sports and Performing Arts rotations, which provide varied opportunities to develop teamwork, creativity, and physical skill.
Throughout these years, students are encouraged to demonstrate Christian values such as perseverance, integrity, and kindness, growing in both character and capability as they develop strong learning habits.
Years 3–4 are a time of significant growth as students gain confidence, strengthen foundational knowledge, and take increasing ownership of their learning.
In Years 5–6, students consolidate and extend their literacy and numeracy understanding while applying these skills across all curriculum areas. Our programmes align with the refreshed curriculum pathways, providing clear expectations for what students should know and be able to do as they prepare for their transition to Middle School.
Learning is purposeful, connected to real-world contexts, and grounded in a Christian worldview. Students develop deeper subject knowledge while also strengthening the broad capabilities needed for success—critical thinking, communication, creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving.
Students continue to receive specialist instruction in Science and Technology, Spanish, and Physical Education, allowing them to engage with concepts at greater depth and develop confidence across a wide range of disciplines. They also participate in weekly Sports and Performing Arts rotations, which further extend their teamwork, creativity, and physical capability as they take on greater leadership and responsibility in their learning.
These senior Primary years offer rich opportunities for leadership, responsibility, and service. Students are encouraged to apply Christian character in their relationships, decision-making, and contributions to the school community.
Years 5–6 are an exciting and formative stage where students grow in maturity, independence, and readiness for Middle School, equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values they need to flourish.
Home Learning is an integral component of each student’s education, reinforcing classroom learning and fostering effective study habits. This becomes increasingly important as students progress through the year levels. Our Home Learning programme includes a combination of scholastic and service activities, with memory verse learning being the most essential aspect. For this reason, we encourage students to prioritise learning their memory verses first.
Home Learning also helps students develop independent study habits. We encourage them to:
- Establish a regular time and place for Home Learning
- Ensure their library bag and sports gear are packed as required
- Take responsibility for having a parent review and sign their Home Learning records
Students are expected to complete 45-60 minutes of Home Learning each week.
If parents have any questions regarding the assigned Home Learning, please feel free to contact the classroom teacher.
