Our KingsWay Pathways team is incredibly proud of Riley Greenwood and Elena-Jin Pearce (Year 13 students), who recently represented our school at the COACH (Creating Opportunities for a Career in Health) wānanga, delivered by Whakapiki Ake at Waipapa Marae.
Over four enriching days, they were immersed in a programme designed to inspire and prepare Māori rangatahi for pathways into health careers. A highlight of their experience was connecting with tuakana currently studying in health-related fields. Hearing firsthand stories from those who have come through Whakapiki Ake and MAPAS helped bring their future aspirations into clear focus.
They also had the opportunity to meet healthcare professionals who once stood in their shoes — making their goals feel even more achievable.
The “learning to learn” modules were another standout, with sessions led by teachers from across Auckland. These workshops explored how to succeed in subjects like science, maths, and English, equipping them with valuable study strategies and confidence for the future.
Riley and Elena shared how grateful they are for the dedication and support of the Whakapiki Ake team, and highly recommend the COACH programme to any student considering a career in health.
✨ Through COACH, students gain clarity about their future, build meaningful connections, and experience university life at the University of Auckland.
Ka rawe, Riley and Elena — we can’t wait to see where your journey takes you!
