Attendance
Regular attendance is essential for students at KingsWay to make consistent progress and achieve their full potential. Being present at school allows students to engage fully with learning, build positive relationships, and benefit from the support and resources available. We are committed to meeting the Ministry of Education’s attendance targets because we recognise that good attendance is closely linked to academic success and overall wellbeing. By prioritising attendance and working closely with families to address any challenges, KingsWay strives to create an environment where every student has the opportunity to flourish, grow in confidence, and prepare well for their future.
Ministry of Education Attendance Target
The Ministry of Education (MOE) continues to prioritise student attendance and engagement at school. The government has included increasing student attendance among nine targets for the public sector and recently published an update that demonstrated a term-on-term annual improvement in rates of students attending 90% or more of the time. By 2030, schools are expected to have 80 percent of students present for 90 percent of the term.
From Term 1 2026, all state and state-integrated schools in New Zealand are required to implement an Attendance Management Plan (AMP). These plans aim to improve student attendance by providing clear pathways to identify and address absences.

Attendance Report
KingsWay is committed to keeping parents up-to-date on their child’s school attendance. Our attendance report includes all occurrences when a child has been absent from school for any non-schooling matter. This includes both approved and non-approved absences.
Some examples of approved absence counted in the report include medical (illness or injury) leave, bereavement leave, and planned absences for sporting honours at the national level.
Some examples of unapproved absences include holidays during term time, staying home to care for a sibling, or taking a day off for a student’s birthday.
These classifications are consistent with the Ministry of Education regulations that schools are required to follow.
The report is issued every six weeks. The reporting cycle begins week 6 of Term 1, and then week 1 and week 6 of every subsequent term in the school year. As a result, parents/caregivers will receive seven reports annually.
