Kia ora, my name is Cushla Shepherd. I am 48 years old and I grew up on the Hibiscus Coast with my twin sister and two brothers. I live in Arkles Bay with my husband Mark of 26 years with our two daughters Ella and Emma. Both Ella and Emma have been educated at KingsWay School, with Ella now studying Communication Design at AUT and Emma in Year 12. As a family, we feel extremely proud and blessed to be a part of our KingsWay School community.
Currently, I am the Deputy Principal of Albany Junior High School and prior to this, I taught at Orewa College for 16 years. I have worked in New Zealand education for 27 years, in six schools, teaching children from Y0 – Y13 as a homeroom teacher, Health and Physical Education teacher and school leader.
Recently completed my Masters degree of Educational Leadership which incorporated a research thesis around an inquiry on ‘What skills, knowledge and attitudes our students need to effectively learn and live in our fast changing 21st century society’. This postgraduate study enabled me to clarify how I can impact student learning and wellbeing through educational leadership.
I am honoured to be a part of our Board of Trustees as a parent representative to support and contribute to our endeavours to raise student achievement with a vision for our ‘KingsWay graduates to be confident, connected, actively involved, lifelong learners who embody the Christian special character of the school.
