Communication Procedures

Parent partnership is one of the foundation stones of KingsWay School. Keeping open and honest communication lines is paramount to achieving this goal. As staff we endeavour to return correspondence within 24 hours but teachers are only expected to answer school emails between 8.30 am and 5pm. If we have not responded within this timeframe, please use a different means to communicate with us.

The homeroom teacher is the first port of call. Wherever possible, use email to correspond with the homeroom teacher.
If the issue is more serious or confidential you can arrange a personal interview with the person you wish to see by emailing them directly or phoning the main office.
Please make a formal appointment if you wish to see a teacher. This can be done by emailing the teacher involved and agreeing on a mutually acceptable time between 9.05 am and 3.30pm. Unfortunately we cannot do impromptu meetings before school as our students need us but will meet with you during non-contacts and after school by prior appointment only.

  • If you wish to make an appointment with the Boys’ Dean, please contact Mrs Yvonne Neville by email:
  • If you wish to make an appointment with the Girls’ Dean, please contact Miss Chantal Swanepoel by email:
  • If you wish to meet with the Head of Middle School, please contact Mrs Andrew to make an appointment on 09 427 0940 or by email:

Most Middle School correspondence will have a reply slip of some sort which needs to be returned as soon as possible to your child’s form teacher or emailed to

Your child’s form teacher will communicate with you by email on a weekly basis. Please ensure that we have your correct email address and check your emails regularly for updated information on what happens in terms of homework expectations, assignments and general news from your child’s class and the Middle School.

Reporting to Parents

The following reporting cycle is followed :

  • End of Term 1 (7 April)  -  Parent/teacher conferences
  • End of Term 2  -  Formal written reports
  • Term 3 (4 August)  -  Parent/teacher and student conferences
  • Term 4  -  Formal written reports

Parents are required to attend the Full School Parent Meeting in Term 1 and the Middle School Parent Meeting in Term 4.

Assessments

Students will be assessed throughout the year. Students will be required to prepare for these and teachers will indicate clearly which material should be covered.

Regular assessments form part of a responsible preparation programme for assessment in the Senior School. Students will be given a comprehensive breakdown of all skills and content to be revised for all assessments.

Standardised assessments (PATs, Schonell spelling tests, IKAN and GloSS) will be done throughout the year to measure student performance for National achievement purposes. No preparation is needed for these assessments.
